Burgess Falls State Park has begun guided kayak tours.
Once a week, a park ranger will lead 10 kayaks from Cane Hollow Boat Dock to the base of the water fall. Park Manager Bill Summers said the four hour round trips will last until October.
“This is something that we have been thinking about for quite a while,” Summers said. “But, we have so many visitors at the park. It is challenging for us to provide as many programs as we would like. Just in the past three months, we have had 97,000 visitors.”
Summers said the park allocated enough money in this year’s budget to purchase the kayaks. Summers said the kayaks should pay for themselves with each trip costing $30.
“I think by doing them, we can pay for the kayaks in a few months,” Summers said. “We got a couple of our older kayaks with Our Friends Burgess Park purchases for us for the use of research and patrols.”
Summers said the tours a good opportunity to learn more about the state’s natural areas and get a behind the scenes look of the park. The cost covers your life jacket and paddle, as well. The kayak tour is about 4 miles in total.
