Residents Get Fentress County Bridge Named After Local

A former Wolf River Valley resident will be honored in Fentress County.

The bridge going over the Little Jack Creek will be named after Virgil H. Pile. Fentress County Mayor Jimmy Johnson said county locals wanted to honor Pile, who passed away in 1970.

“It was submitted by some residents there to have the bridge that sits right in front of his house, where his house actually was and it runs across Little Jack Creek there so they decided they would try to get that there named after him and the commission was gracious enough to pass that last night,” Johnson said.

Pile was born in 1870, and lived to be 100 years old. He was married to Nannie Pile, and worked with his father-in-law doing logging.

“They actually cut the timber that built his home which is still there,” Johnson said.

Virgil H. Pile spent his entire 100 years in the Wolf River Valley.
