The Tennessee Highway Patrol worked four accidents Thursday afternoon along a three-mile stretch of Interstate 40 as heavy rains pelted the region.
A three-car pileup near mile marker 294 began the afternoon just before 3:00pm. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol’s preliminary report, the vehicle driven by Shibu Mammem John of Nashville slowed because of another car hydroplaning. A car driven by Jason Kraeger of Greeneville could not slow in time and hit another vehicle driven by Theresa Adams of Memphis. The momentum pushed Adams’ vehicle into the rear of John’s car.
No one was injured.
19-year-old Amanda Muller of Pikeville had slowed for traffic congestion in the westbound lanes Thursday around 3:15pm. Her vehicle was struck in the rear by 21-year-old Bryan Asberry of Jamestown. The Tennessee Highway Patrol reports no injuries and minor damage to both vehicles. The accident happened at mile marker 297.
A 37-year-old Monterey man suffered injuries around 3:30pm Thursday when his car hydroplaned across the westbound lanes of I-40. Valencia Ahscari left the left side of the roadway and struck a ditch near mile marker 294.
A North Carolina man hydroplaned near the 295 mile marker around 3:45pm striking a tree. 42-year-old Kevin Phillips of Pinehurst, NC was not injured. He hydroplaned off the left side of the roadway. His car had to be towed from the ditch.
