Fentress County active Covid cases over the past month have increased from eight to 36.
County Executive Jimmy Johnson said positive cases are always a concern, but was expected with more people being tested.
“We were expecting it,” Johnson said. “We were talking with our local health department and state officials that it was going to come. This is what they told us would happen. The more people that get tested the more cases would show up.”
Fentress County has tested over 2,000 residents with a positivity rate under four percent. Johnson said he encourages people to continue to wear masks, but will keep the decision to the individual.
“We just hope everyone respects people that wants to wear a mask,” Johnson said. “It is their privilege to wear one. We have faith in the people of Fentress County to do what is best. If a business wants to require mask wearing, I am sure people will adhere to that.”
Johnson said the county closed the South Fentress Park and Pall Mall from vendors to decrease gatherings. Johnson asks people to continue to practice social distancing and stay home if you feel sick.
