Putnam County Schools putting another tool in place to protect children and staff this fall with the purchase of some $110,000 in electrostatic misters.
“The mister’s supposedly kill 98, 99 percent of all germs that are there, including COVID,” Director Of Schools Corby King said. “But when we get into flu season, that will be beneficial for us with just the normal spread of sickness that comes in schools. The mister’s are supposed to kill those germs on contact.”
The school board approved the purchase Thursday night to provide additional sanitizing of schools. They will be used in athletic and food preparation areas, in particular.
“It’s like a fogging system, you can fog an entire classroom in just a few minutes and then it needs to sit for 10 minutes and it’s safe on all surfaces,” King said. “After 10 minutes, it dries and it’s safe to reoccupy that that area. So it’s a quick way that we can come in and fog.”
The misters will be paid for with money from the CARES Act.
The system also approved the purchase of twenty bottle filler water stations. Traditional water fountains will not be used when school reopens because of the risk of contamination.
