Overton County Health and Rehabilitation Center is changing its admission policy in order to combat COVID-19.
Public Information Officer Scott Stephens said the stringent measures have been put in place to keep the center’s positive cases at zero. For a patient to be admitted, they will have to have a negative COVID test and go through a quarantine period.
“We have set up a special wing for our new admissions,” Stephens said. “So they’re not coming into a new admission right into the general population with all the other residents who have been living there. Once the 14-day quarantine is over, then we’ll move them out of that area into other areas of the nursing home.”
In addition to the new policy for admissions, Stephens said the center is also suspending its visitation policy. It had been allowing families to visit outdoors, but Stephens said that will no longer be allowed.
“With the number of numbers coming back up we’ve postponed that,” Stephens said. “So, there’s no more outdoor visits. We do continue to offer families the option to visit their loved ones via the video apps.”
Stephens said Overton County Health and Rehab currently has no infected residents. Also staff members are being tested weekly, and the staff is currently free from infection.
