TTU Students Happy With New Center

After one week, Tennessee Tech’s new Fitness Center gained excellent reviews.

Chemical Engineer major Dennis Piercy said as a grad student, he didn’t think he would be able to see the project finish, but he said it was worth the wait.

“One of the best things is the variety,” Piercy said. “Like now they’ve introduced the rock wall, they’re going to have an escape room, the weight room is a lot larger than all the new gyms. In every aspect of it, it’s a major improvement over the last Fit.”

Piercy said he appreciates all the safety precautions Fit staff are implementing, such as requiring a masks and temperature checks upon entry.

Special Education major Corey Goavec said he used the old Fitness center for about a month, and much prefers the new facility.

“It’s a lot more accessible, especially with the quiet room that they have, I noticed that,” Goavec said. “We went and took a tour yesterday, but they said that it was wheel chair accessible as well, which is really nice.”

Accounting major Zachary Gilliam said the new Fit has a lot more space, including four squat racks instead of just two in the old Fit.

“I love it,” Gilliam said. “I think everything here is spaced out well, everything is brand new, state of the art, all different varieties of equipment, and just a great atmosphere.”
