Commissioners Write Off EMS Debt

Putnam County Commissioners voted to write off some $627,000 in noncollectable debt from Putnam County EMS Monday night.

The amount represents about 8 percent of the ambulance service’s revenues. County Mayor Randy Porter said the county has a debt collection service that tries to collect the money and has been successful at doing so. He said many medical providers report noncollectable debt around 20 percent.

Porter said the county does not sell its debt.

The county also wrote off more than $31,000 in bad debt from the solid waste department.

Commissioners also approved the appointment of Donald Davis to the Bangham Utility Board for a four-year term. David Bush will serve a four-year term on the Double Springs Utility Board.

The County Commissioners Nominating Committee reappointed Cindy Putman and Harry Ingle to a three-year term on the County Library Board. Brian Payne reappointed to a three-year term on the Regional Library Board.
