The Cookeville Community Band cancelled its summer season Friday because of COVID-19 concerns.
The band’s summer concerts, including the July 4th patriotic presentation, has been a community tradition since 2003.
The group’s Facebook page said the health and safety of the band members and the audience had to come first.
“This decision was made after evaluating rehearsal hall availability, concert performance space,” the post read. “Our first and foremost priority is safety. We also must adhere to the policies set by state and local officials with regard to gathering in groups and social distancing. We certainly look forward to being able to gather and perform again.”
Dogwood Park’s Third Thursday in the Park series will continue. Big Band Sound Concerts scheduled for August 3 and September 7 remain scheduled as does the Bryan Symphony Orchestra concert September 6.
