Cookeville residents can now return to Big O Donuts after six weeks of the shop being closed.
The new building off of Spring Street is painted white, blue, and pink. Owner Tom Bonning said he’s happy with how the new shop looks.
“Well it’s larger in the lobby, everything is new, whereas the old building had been there quite a while without any renovations,” Bonning said. “This location is just bright and happy, the way we want it.”
Bonning said changes to the menu are coming, including more donut selections, milkshakes, and lunch options.
“We’re going to be doing our cotton candy donut as a regular thing instead of just on weekends,” Bonning said. “That seems to be our namesake donut because the colors are the same as the colors of our theme.”
Renovations took longer than expected, and Bonning wasn’t thrilled about moving locations at first. He said this ended up being a great move for the business.
“I believe that at first we were pretty depressed about having to move,” Bonning said. “But now that we’re over here and everything is new and there’s much more traffic driving by, and we own this building so we don’t have to deal with a landlord and not [worry] about getting anything fixed. We’re really happy.”
Customer Gale Moss said she’s excited to have her favorite donut shop open again.
“We just moved to Cookeville about nine months ago, but we first came here three years ago, and one of the first places we want was Big O’s,” Moss said. “I just thought it was the greatest thing. When we moved up here we were like ‘Big O Donuts!’ So now that they’re back open, you see that I got a box full right here.”
