Bid Approved For Jamestown Sewer Upgrades

The City Of Jamestown awarded the bid Monday night for upgrades to the city sewer system.

Portland Utility Construction submitted the low bid at $531,000 according to Jamestown City Engineer Thomas Bennett. The city received a total of four bids for the project. A Community Development Block Grant from the state will pay for the project.

Bennett said the bid exceeded the money available through the grant by about $16,000.

“We go ahead and authorize the difference, that additional cost, with the understanding that we will work during construction to adjust that unit price contract down to the original amount, as close as possible,” Bennett said.

The Board of Aldermen approved the bid on a unanimous vote. The process will go forward once state officials approve the bid for the project. Design work has already been completed on the project.
