Obituaries For Friday, June 5

Collin Wilhite, 21, of Sparta, passed away Friday, June 5, 2020 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

A private service for Ronald “Dean” Spurgeon, age 81 of Cookeville, will be held at Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Heavenly Host Lutheran Church pastor Andrew Smith presiding. He passed away on June 2, 2020 at his home after an extended illness. Dean is survived by his wife of 63 years Barbara (Bush) Spurgeon, his daughter Jackie (Jay) Duncan, son Neal (Heidi) Spurgeon, and daughter Deanna (Barry) Smith. He was preceded in death by his son Gregory. Dean was proud of his grandchildren: Josh (Shea) Farris, Holly (Justin) Braun, Jessica (Chris) Graham, Ross (Rayna) Spurgeon, Gabby Smith and Molly Smith. Also his great grandchildren: Cora Belle Farris, Joe Graham, Peyton Braun, Cienna Farris, Boone Dean Graham, Scarlett Graham, Weston Graham, and a Baby Braun on the way. Dean was born in Freetown, Indiana on August 24, 1938, and was preceded in death by his parents Russell and Lorene (Buttorff) Spurgeon and In-laws Neal and Cordelia (Bush) Marling. Dean retired from Cummins Filtration (Fleetguard) after 34 years. He was one of the original employees, and moved with the company to Cookeville, from Seymour, IN in 1967. After retirement, Dean started riding Harley Davidson motorcycles. His adventures took him all over North America where he made many great friends. Dean was also an avid bass fisherman. Fishing and winning tournaments on most of the area lakes. In fact, Dean loved all sports with TTU basketball being one of his favorite spectator sports. He attended practices and games, and was known for expressing his opinion. A special mention goes out to close family members Norma Spurgeon Hubbard and Freida Spurgeon Duchane and many cousins. Dean will be missed by all of his family and friends. Memorials may be made to the Food Pantry at First United Methodist Church, 204 E. Spring Street, Cookeville, Tn 38501. Celebration of Life gathering for Jerry Loyd Walker, age 58 of Cookeville, will be held from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, June 5, 2020, at Crest Lawn Funeral Home. He passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2020. Jerry was born Wednesday, June 14, 1961, in Sparta, Tennessee, he was the son of Loyd Walker and Betty (Martin) Walker. Jerry was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He never met a stranger, he was loved by everyone that knew him, and he will be greatly missed. Jerry is survived by, Wife, Carlena Walker; Daughter, Brittany Howell; 2 Grandaughters, Raegan and Maddux Howell; Father, Loyd and Linda Walker; Mother, Betty Walker; Sister, Sherry Walker; A host of special friends.

Graveside Funeral Services For Ronnie Welch, Age 77, Of Crossville, Tennessee, Will Be Conducted On Saturday, June 6, 2020, At 11:00 AM At Hearn Hill Cemetery In Watertown, Tennessee. Mr. Welch Was Born On November 1, 1942, In Detroit, Michigan, To The Late Shirley And Christine Ruth England Welch. Mr. Welch Passed Away On Thursday, June 4, 2020, At Victorian Square Assisted Living In Rockwood, Tennessee. Mr. Welch Was A Plumber And Pipe Fitter. He Was A United States Army Veteran. He Is Survived By His Daughter, Debbie (Chip) Breauner Of Knoxville, TN; Son, Mike (Melissa) Welch Of Mt. Juliet, TN; Stepdaughter, Tina (Bill) Methvin Of Crossville, TN; 5 Grandchildren; 1 Great Grandchild; Sisters, Shirley Ann Horst, Linda Goodwin, Imogene Phillips And Faye Norrod; Brothers, Jack, Jerry, Kenny, Donnie, Payton And David Welch. In Addition To His Parents, He Was Preceded In Death By His Wives, Betty Welch And Francis Neal Welch; And Brother, John Edward Welch. The Family Will Receive Friends At The Cemetery.

A Memorial Service for Sandra Kay Clary, age 73 of Cookeville, will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 6, 2020 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home with Dewey Young officiating. The family will welcome friends from 9:00 AM until time of the service at the funeral home. She passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2020 at 2:30 AM after a long illness. Sandra grew up in Huntington, West Virginia with her parents, Willis and Anna Porter. She worked in the nursing field for many years. She loved arts and crafts and her Barbie Doll Collection. She will be dearly missed. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Kevin Dale Clary. She is survived by: Husband Roger Dale Clary; Daughter Christina Lynn DeWeese (Kelly).

Memorial services for Sigrid Karoline Marie Miller, age 76 of Sparta, will be conducted 2:00pm Saturday, June 6, 2020 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00pm Saturday at Hunter Funeral Home. Dewey Young will officiate. She passed away Sunday, May 17, 2020 at Erlanger Hospital. Sigrid was born on May 3, 1944 in Boxburg, Germany to the late August Lindner and Hildegard Lindner Kifer. Sigrid studied in Lebanon where she earned a Masters Degree in Theological Studies. Sigrid later became a contracting officer negotiating several high profile contracts between the United States and Germany. She received several awards of recognition of excellence in her field. Sigrid spoke seven languages and could write in five. She was very knowledgeable about health and medicine. Sigrid loved to cook, sew, travel, read and entertain. She loved life and everyone in it. She never met a stranger and would help anyone with her gracious heart.

Visitation for Mrs. Patricia Ann Hammock, age 74 of Silver Point, will be held Monday June 8 from 10 a.m. until 12 noon at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. She passed away suddenly Monday evening June 1, 2020 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Due to Covid-19 precautions, social distance measures will be observed.
