Upper Cumberland gyms will reopen Friday with safety and health precautions from Governor Bill Lee in place.
Workout Anytime Co-Owner Jerry Pugh said he and his staff have been preparing for the extra precautions that would be needed since the day they were mandated to close. Pugh said they are ready to open on Friday safely and in accordance with the business and consumer adaptations from Governor Lee.
“We’ve been in there for days, moving the equipment around, and we’re going to make sure that when people come in the door,” Pugh said, “Our plans are to do temperature checks, ask all the questions, make they understand it’s their responsibility to disinfect all the equipment.”
Pugh said water fountains and locker rooms will remain closed. In addition to moving the equipment to maintain social distancing guidelines, additional sanitation stations have been set throughout the gym.
Pugh said the gym will be staffed 24/7 Monday through Thursday and operate with limited hours Friday through Sunday. The gym will only be available to members while it is staffed. Pugh said census readings will be taken to make sure the gym stays at or below 50 percent capacity. If issues of crowd size begin to arise, Pugh said they would implement an appointment system.
Lee issued the directive on gyms Tuesday.
