Obituaries For Tuesday, April 28

Judith Pamela Freeman, age 80, of Cookeville passed away Saturday afternoon April 25, 2020 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Judy was born December 13, 1939 in Sevierville, TN to the late James Preston Griffin Sr. and Emma Jones Griffin. She graduated from Cocke County High School in 1957 and attended East TN State University. Judy began her career as an executive assistant at Bowser Briggs and later the Keen Corporation in Cookeville. She worked for many years at the Bank of Putnam County, where she retired as a financial advisor. Judy was a familiar face in the community and served for many years in various civic, professional, and community organizations. Among those were the Tennessee Banker’s Association, Cookeville Noonday Rotary Club, Cookeville Jr. Women’s Club, and the Better Business Bureau. She served as a board member for the Upper Cumberland Development District and Friends of the Library. She was a supporter of WCTE, Susan G. Komen, and the River Community Church, where she attended faithfully for many years. A true animal lover, Judy and husband, B.R. never met a stray cat they didn’t adopt. In addition to much-loved the cats, they adopted an extraordinary dog, Marley. Judy is survived by her husband of 60 years, B.R. Freeman, whom she married August 19, 1959 in Newport, TN; brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Sandra Griffin of Crossville; and sister-in-law, Judean Griffin of Morristown, TN, brother-in-law, Dennis Freeman and sister-in-law, Alice Freeman, both of Del Rio, TN, niece Amy Griffin of Connecticut, and many special life-long friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James Preston Griffin Jr. Private funeral services will be held at Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Private interment will be at Union Cemetery in Newport, TN. Memorial donations may be given to the Cookeville/Putnam County Animal Shelter, 2650 Gainesboro Grade, Cookeville, TN, 38501 or Susan G Komen Upper Cumberland.

Celebration of Life Services for Ms. Nola Lorraine Franklin, age 81, of Hilham, Tennessee will be held at a later date. Nola Franklin passed from this life on Saturday Morning, April 25, 2020 in the comfort of her home. She was born in Alpine, Tennessee on July 31, 1938, the youngest of 11 children to the late Andy and Hattie Sells Franklin. Nola was a 1957 graduate of Livingston Academy, then attended Warren-Wilson College and MTSU. Nola enjoyed family, friends, travel, and sports, especially football. Michigan and the Titans were her favorite teams. She also loved and spoiled all of her nieces and nephews. Nola leaves behind her brother, LD Franklin & wife Judy of Livingston, TN; sister-in-law, Frances Lee Franklin of Rossville, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mr. Matthew Cory Poteet, age 31, passed away Friday, April 24, 2020 at Tennova Healthcare in Shelbyville. Cory was born December 16, 1988 in Sparta, Tennessee. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a mechanic for Albea Americas, Inc. in Shelbyville. He loved sports, both as a spectator and participant. He lit up a room with his personality and loved to spend time with family and friends. Cory is preceded in death by his father Jerry Poteet. Surviving family members include his mother and step-father Sherry and Bruce Hutchings; Brother: Kyle Poteet and wife April; Step-sister: Shavonne Hutchings; Three nieces: Hannah, Taylor and Allyson; Nephew: Payton. In honor of the Poteet family’s wishes, Cory will be cremated and no public services are planned.

Glenda Diane Lee, age 69, of Baxter passed away Friday, April 24, 2020 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born on Wednesday, May 10, 1950 in Soddy-Daisy to Glenn Gibson and Bonnie Louise (Phillips) Turner. Glenda is survived by her daughter, Brandy Lee (Mike Nelson), dog companion Mia, step-children, Robert E. Lee III and Elizabeth Cromartie, two grandchildren, Brandon Siemens and Neil Nelson and one sister, Phyllis Smith. Glenda was proceeded in death by her brother, David Gibson and her parents. There will be no services or visitation.

Larry Kenneth (Kenny) Gilreath, 71, of Sparta, passed away peacefully Friday, April 24, 2020. Mr. Gilreath was born in Cookeville, TN to the late William Milton and Evelena Carter Gilreath. Larry, a loving father and husband, dedicated his life to his family and his community. He was always there for those in need, he will be remembered fondly by many individuals who were fortunate enough to have known him. Kenny loved watching westerns, playing with his dog Jake, spending time with the family and going on drives reminiscing. He was a hard worker and was retired from the Maintenance Department working for the White County Board of Education. Mr. Gilreath is survived by- Wife of 50 years- Charlotte Sue Neal Gilreath of Sparta, TN; Children- Melinda Gilreath of Sparta and Sherry Ann Gilreath of Cookeville, TN; Special ex-Son-in-law- Simon Leong of Crossville, TN; Brothers- Bobby Gilreath of Crossville, TN and William Gilreath of Sparta, TN Sister- Mae Conate of Sparta, TN; Special Furry Friend- Jake. Due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, the family will hold a Celebration of Life for Mr. Gilreath at a later date.

Graveside Celebration of Life Services for Mr. Paul Allan Terry, age 73, of Livingston will be conducted 1 p.m., Friday, May 1, 2020 from the Overton County Memorial Gardens. Bro. John Mabrey and Bro. Brooks Boyd will officiate. Mr. Paul Allan Terry passed peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, April 22, 2020. He was born September 8, 1946 in Campbell County to the late Paul & Cleda Mayfield Terry. Allan was a 1964 graduate of Livingston Academy, and a member of the Hilham Church of Christ. Allan and his family owned and operated the Lay Simpson Furniture Store in Livingston for many years. He loved people and making friends wherever he went. Allan loved singing and spending time with his friends and family. He loved and missed his son with all his heart. Allan leaves behind his loving wife Mrs. Linda Wilson Terry of Livingston; sister, Mala Sivo & husband Andy of Rickman; special loving foster sister, Vickey Shrvm of Livingston; and numerous other family and friends. In addition to his parents, Allan was preceded in death by his loving son, Paul Allan Terry II. The family will welcome friends at the Graveside.
