Cookeville’ Sports One fire is considered accidental, although investigation is ongoing.
Fire Chief Daryl Blair said the owners should be able to salvage parts of the store.
“Pretty much the whole building had some kind of damage whether it was fire, heat, smoke, or water,” Blair said. “As far as the in depth of the damage, I’d estimate at least half of it just from looking at it.”
The fire department responded to a 12:50 a.m. call Saturday morning. Blair said no one was injured and the fire was contained.
“We did look at some of the electric and stuff, just trying to see if we can pinpoint it. We’re not for sure if we’ll be able to or not. Of course when the other investigators look at it, they’ll be able to get more resources.”
The next step once the investigation completes is for the property to return to the owners who will then report the accident to their insurance. Blair said the fire department has a great relationship with the insurance industry.
