Ms. Sims Was Born On October 10, 1956, In Monterey, To The Late Hershel And Tressa Elise Phillips Whittaker. Ms. Sims Passed Away On Wednesday, April 22, 2020, At Her Home. Ms. Sims Was A Homemaker. She Was A Member Of Oak Hill Church In Rickman. She Is Survived By, 1 Daughter, Kristie Schrichte Of Cookeville; 3 Sons And Daughters-In-Law, Billie And Brittney Sims Of Cookeville, Larry And Jessica Sims Of Livingston, Barry And Ashley Sims Of Sparta; 13 Grandchildren; 3 Great Grandchildren; Sisters, Vivan Agee Of Carthage, Tammy Givens Of Carthage; Special Friend That She Considered As A Sister, Dean Moody Of Hilham; In Addition To Her Parents, She Was Preceded In Death By Her Husband, Larry Sims, Sr.; Infant Son, John Frank Sims; Sister, Sharon Troutt; Brother, Terry “Butch” Whittaker.
Gregory Royce Harris, 56, of Cookeville, passed away on April 21, 2020, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Putnam County. Greg Harris was born on December 3, 1963, in Jackson County to Royce and Geneva Harris. Greg graduated from Jackson County High school and married his high school sweetheart, Regina (Loftis) Harris. She was the love of his life and they have been happily married for 36 years, and raised three children. Greg worked in his family’s oil business for many years, before opening his own venture, Harris Oil Inc. Greg spent over 30 years in the oil industry and had a passion for business as well as helping other small businesses succeed. He always loved serving and helping people and after he retired in 2009, he made it his mission to do so. He was a long-time member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He served faithfully in his church in multiple ministries from teaching children in Sunday School to choir to being a second dad to many in the youth group. Greg lit up a room every time he walked in with his contagious smile and love for people. From mission trips to China to volunteer with the Awana program to building churches and sharing Jesus in Romania, Greg went all over the world to love people in the name of Jesus. His latest adventure and greatest pleasure was serving on the Rapid Response Team for the Billy Graham Ministry. There is nothing more that Greg loved than being with his family. He cherished time together with them, especially his grandchildren. He loved being a grandpa. Greg enjoyed traveling with his wife and loved going to University of Tennessee football games. He was the biggest sports fan, especially the Vols. Greg was a beekeeper and enjoyed being outdoors on his farm. He is survived by his wife, Regina Harris and was the proud father and grandfather to his three children and their spouses, Daniel (Amber) Harris, Hannah (Justin) Davis, Stephen (Amanda) Harris; 3 grandchildren, Emma Grace Davis, Benjamin Davis, Ava Davis and one more arriving later this year; his parents, Royce and Geneva Harris; sibling and her spouse, Janet (Kevin) Smith; mother-in-law, Anna (Bill) Harrison; and 3 brothers-in-law and their spouses, along with several nieces and nephews. Greg was preceded in death by his grandparents, Willard and Vera Dyer; grandparents, Henry and Pearlie Harris; uncle, Eugene Dyer; and uncle, James Haile and father-in-law, Durell “Steve” Loftis. Due to the current pandemic, there will be no public visitation or funeral. A Celebration of Greg’s life will be scheduled for his friends and extended family at a future date. Mrs. Lela Mae Terrell Summers, age 92 of Sparta, passed away Monday evening April 20, 2020 at Life Care Center of Sparta. Mrs. Summers was born July 6, 1927 in Smithville, Tennessee to the late John Haskell & Arlena Ashburn Terrell. She was a retired secretary for the Tennessee Department of Human Services. She enjoyed traveling the country alongside her late husband in their R.V. and being on Center Hill Lake but her true joy was her family. Lela was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Sparta. Surviving family members include her daughter Kay Farley and husband David; Daughter-in-law: Nancy Summers; Grandchildren: Kristen Farley, Michael Farley and wife Allison, Andy Verble and Steven Summers; Great-grandchildren: Zoey Verble, Drew Verble, Eli Verble, Henry Farley; Two sisters: Betty Moss and Nell Medley; Several nieces and nephews also survive. In honor of Mrs. Summers wishes a private graveside service will be conducted at Oak Lawn Cemetery. Randall Kirby will officiate.
Arlene Frances Keckler, 89, of Sparta, passed away Monday, April 20, 2020 in Cookeville. Mrs. Keckler was born on April 03, 1931 in Adrian, Michigan to the late William and Cora Parker Springer. Due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, the family will hold a Celebration of Life for Mrs. Keckler at a later date.
