No Bids For Meadow Park Lake Repairs

Bid deadlines to repair the breakwater and T Pier at Crossville’s Meadow Park Lake have passed without any takers.

Engineering Director Tim Begley said there are no local dock companies, so the department has to scout larger companies in Knoxville or Chattanooga.

“We know they’re busy, they’d rather not do paperwork and this is paperwork,” Begley said. “As long as they’re making plenty of money doing their current projects, they don’t want to waste their time doing the paperwork for projects like this when they can get projects that don’t require paperwork.”

Repair estimations began during the summer of last year. Begley said the department began looking for proposals when the project went over-budget.

The $7,000 project includes re-anchoring the breakwater with six cables and weights, reinstalling spud poles on the T Pier, and replacing flotation devices. Begley said they need new stainless steel cables and 4,500 pound concrete anchors.

“The breakwater actually keeps the waves off of the boat slips, and keeps the wake from moving the boat slips,” Begley said. “The pier is used for fishing and it’s shifted just a little bit with the up and down level of the lake. The T posts needed to be adjusted on it.”

Begley said delays are not dangerous, but the breakwater could be damaged.
