Commissioners Approve Animal Shelter Expansion

Putnam County Commissioners approved the addition of a 1,000 square foot meeting room to the animal shelter.

The room will be built adjacent to the current shelter, connected by a covered walkway. Shelter officials want to use the space for educational programs. It had been part of the shelter plans from the start, but got removed when the project costs exceeded the budget.

Commissioners unanimously approved the plan Monday night, which will use funds from the Ayers estate. The Cookeville City Council approved plans last week.

In other business Monday, Commissioners appointed Dr. Sullivan Smith as county medical examiner for a two-year term. Five members of the County Equalization Board were appointed for two-year terms.
