The trial for an Upper Cumberland doctor facing federal drug charges has been moved to September.
Gilbert Ross Ghearing of Livingston faces charges for violation of the Controlled Substances Act. He allegedly prescribed Schedule II and IV drugs outside the usual course of practice.
Ghearing’s age and pre-existing health conditions make him vulnerable to COVID-19, according to a court filing. In addition, Ghering’s counsel in the case suffered damage to his home and law office in the tornado that hit Nashville.
A pre-trial conference will be held August 31. The trial had been continued until September 8.
Ghearing could face up to 20 years in prison.
