The White County and Putnam County YMCAs will offer free childcare for essential workers during the next several weeks.
Beginning Monday, school age children from 4-12 years of age can be left at the YMCA as part of a state plan initiated Friday.
White County CEO Kyle Goff said their center will be open for childcare from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
“We’re still going to do our part in social distancing,” Goff said. “With that, we need more staff. Right now we can take in at least 20 to 25 kids. Anything more than that is going to strain us with what we’re currently at, man power wise.”
Workers will wear gloves and masks while supervising the children. Goff said the child’s temperature will be checked before they are permitted to enter.
Putnam County CEO Mandy Perhay said Essential Employee Childcare will match working schedules of employees.
“We know that essential workers are putting themselves on the front lines every day to provide services that our community desperately needs during this time,” Perhay said. “This is just one way the YMCA is able to support families, making sure that essential workers can have peace of mind that their children are being cared for in a safe place.”
Safety precautions are in place for the protection of trained supervisors and children.
