Spring produces a flood of high school students heading to college campuses, like Tennessee Tech, searching for a new home.
COVID-19 has changed that this year. Tennessee Tech has turned to virtual tours for recruiting future students.
Vice President for Enrollment Management and Career Development Dr. Brandon Johnson said they are trying new strategies to tell Tech’s story and share information.
“The greatest challenge we are facing is really just finding ways to connect with prospective students and their families in this new virtual environment,” Johnson said.
Johnson said students should expect a normal tour just through a different medium. Their virtual tours include zoom meetings with advisers, facility walk-throughs and overview sessions.
“One of the wonderful advantages Tennessee Tech has is we have an incredible story to tell,” Johnson said. “When we talk to students about their experience with Tech, that hasn’t changed.”
One of Tech’s main source of recruiting before the pandemic was their main website. Johnson said students rely on the website regularly, but admission offices are still available.
Johnson said a normal spring semester would include recruiting varieties of students in high school through mail and visiting schools.
“Access to education is incredible thing we have the responsibility to uphold and Tennessee Tech has taken incredible measures to do so,” Johnson said.
