Biz Foundry Providing 3-D Printed Face Shields

Cookeville’s Biz Foundry will provide free 3-D printed face shields for anyone in need.

Director Tiffany Anton said the idea came from Hip Cookeville’s Blair Dudley.

“[He] has kinda dabbled in 3-D printing with different projects here and there along the way,” Anton said. “When the coronavirus pandemic started closing things down, he decided that he wanted to figure out a way to help. He decided to use the 3-D printer for face shields for people.”

To request a face shield, message Hip Cookeville’s Facebook page to schedule a pick up time. Anton said masks have printed around the clock the past few days.

The face shields are made of mylar and take almost two hours to produce. Anton said the Biz Foundry has been able to provide materials and 3-D printers.

“They’re also looking for donations,” Anton said. “If people have either sheets of mylar that we can use to make the actual shield part or just financial donations for the materials of the 3-D printing spools. You know, any of those resources that material wise we’ll need.”
