Beginning Monday, Overton County School Nutrition will begin distributing food at the schools only on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Overton County Director of Schools Mark Winningham said meals will still be prepared for students.
“This will be a change,” Winningham said. “We’re not going to be delivering out into the community anymore. They will only be at the schools.
Winningham said that the days food is distributed will also change.
“We will not be doing Monday, Wednesday, Friday,” Winningham said. “It will only be Monday and Wednesday. Monday you can pick up the meals and packets at the schools. There will be two meals, two breakfasts and two lunches in those meals on Monday. On Wednesday, there will be three meals.”
16,584 meals were distributed this week, Winningham said, over 6,000 more than last week.
Winningham said he was proud of how the families and school staff have handled the difficult circumstances.
“Students continue to progress, and parents have been very supportive of everything we’ve asked the students to do,” Winningham said.
