A community event Sunday at 7:30 p.m. aims bring the community together to show support for medical workers at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Levi Bouton is helping to organizing the event. He said people can come together without having to interact with others.
“The community is invited to come and park and stay in their vehicles,” Bouton said. “We can’t stress that enough.”
Bouton said the event is a way to serve both the hospital workers on the front lines of the COVID-19 response and the community at large.
“The intent is for everyone to come, roll down their windows, play a song on their radios, and turn their flashers on their cars in an effort to show support for the doctors and nurses that are fighting this awful virus ,” Bouton said.
Bouton said the idea began with his wife, Holly, a long-time nurse at CRMC.
“My wife was inspired by a video floating around Facebook of another city that did something similar,” Bouton said. “They just surrounded the hospital, and she was moved and was driven, and she reached out to a few people that she knows and was trying to make it a reality.”
Bouton said people will meet in the main parking lot at CRMC for an inspirational song followed by prayers from local clergy.
“At approximately 7:30 p.m., a song called “Way Maker” that has some very powerful lyrics for everything going on right now,” Bouton said. “After that song is done, Pastor Bobby from Life Church and John Nichols from Collegeside will be saying a prayer.”
Bouton said although bringing the community together is important right now, he said people needed to keep everyone else’s health in mind by staying in their cars during the event.
