Van Buren County Public Safety Director Will Max said Bone Cave community still has residents with no power after Sunday’s storm.
Max said blocked road ways are slowing down the process.
“We had some roads in the northwestern part of the county in the Bone Cave area that did receive some damage,” Max said. “Several roads are blocked, and we still have several without electricity at this time.”
Around 700 homes lost power after the storms Sunday morning. Severe thunderstorm warnings issued in the area suggested winds in excess of 70mph.
“We are fortunate to have minimal damage,” Max said. “Probably about two or three percent of the county was affected. Maybe up to five at the most. There was pretty minimal damage in the county, and we are fortunate.”
County Mayor Greg Wilson said the majority of the damage was caused by straight line winds pushing over power lines and trees.
“Some barns had some damage,” Wilson said. “Some houses, but a lot of trees were down. There were no injuries to any folks. That was a blessing.”
Wilson said all electricity should be restored by the end of Wednesday.
