WCTE will expand its service to at-home students beginning Monday with a 10-hour program day dedicated to learning.
Originally set to begin as a two-hour daytime block, WCTE will now air at-home learning from 6am-4pm weekdays.
The Tennessee Department Of Education programming will air weekdays 10am-Noon, focused on second, third and fourth graders. PBS At Home learning will focus on pre-K and first graders from 6am-10am daily. The afternoon block from Noon-4pm will center on content for middle and high school students.
“Parents and teachers across the Upper Cumberland are concerned for their children and students,” WCTE Ready To Learn Project Manager Cindy Putman said. “Many may not have access to the tools necessary for traditional distant learning. This partnership with PBS, PBS KIDS, and the TDOE comes at a pivotal time and could be part of the solution in preventing students from not making gains in learning.”
The program schedule will be supplemented by online materials at WCTE.Org. Putman said both teachers and parents can visit the site to integrate the programming into learning while schools remain closed.
