Overton Co Election Commission to Approve Candidates

The Overton County Election Commission met Thursday to approve candidates for Livingston’s June 3 election.

Overton County Administrator of Elections Craig Story said that the names on the ballot will be light.

“For mayor, we have Curtis Hayes,” Story said. “He’s the incumbent, and he is the only candidate that qualified. We have three alderman seats that are up for election this time. We have John Clough, Josh Deck, Rex Dale, and Ken Dodson that have qualified for those seats. So we have four people for three seats.”

Ken Dodson is currently Livingston’s Vice-Mayor and Rex Dale is an incumbent alderman.

Story said that the commission is proceeding as if the election will take place as expected in June.

“As of right now, everything is still on for that election,” Story said. “Of course things change daily, and if we have to make an adjustment, we’ll look at that as we feel we need to.”

Story said he has never had to move an election because of sickness, but because of the unique nature surrounding the coronavirus outbreak, everybody needs to be prepared for changes.

“We’re in uncharted territory,” Story said. “We’re going to have to be flexible and look at everything from a health perspective. If we need to make an adjustment, we’re going to have to play it day-by-day and see how it goes.”

Story said the Election Commission would discuss any affects the coronavirus may have on the June election at its meeting in April.
