Since the hours immediately after the March 3 tornado, Upper Cumberland residents have donated more than 50,700 volunteer hours to assist in the cleanup.
County Mayor Randy Porter said more than 65-hundred volunteers have worked serving those affected.
“That is an amazing community that we live in,” Porter said. “And I want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone that has volunteered.”
The first of three final cleanup weekends took place Saturday and Sunday. Volunteers are needed to help the weekend of March 28 and April 4. Protective measures have been put in place to protect all workers who continue the cleanup.
Porter said it’s important for tornado victims to understand that they remain center in the minds of leadership despite the COVID-19 focus.
“You have not been forgotten,” Porter said. “You are still our priority.”
