Sparta Considering Wastewater Flow Study

The City of Sparta wants to conduct a flow study of the city’s wastewater system.

Sparta City Administrator Brad Hennessee said the study could help the city in multiple ways.

“We know there are improvements that we want to make with our sewer system and the flow monitoring helps us identify the most beneficial areas to target with both projects we have ongoing,” Hennessee said.

Hennessee said there were two sewer projects Sparta is trying to address.

“We’re doing a city-wide sewer system rehab,” Hennessee said. “That is being done with community block grant development money. The flow monitoring helps determine where the highest priority problem areas are. We’re also working with TDEC on another sewer issue. We need to determine where the highest priority trouble spots are.”

Sparta would be aided in the project by Duke’s Root Control.

“They will set up the flow monitoring sensors in place,” Hennessee said. “Then it will be a collaboration between the city sewer department and Duke’s Root Control as far as deciphering the information.”

The Sparta Board of Aldermen will vote on the study Thursday at 5pm.
