In the wake of Tuesday morning’s storms, there is a continued need for blood donations in the Upper Cumberland region.
The Blood Assurance location in Cookeville at 155 West Broad Street is scheduled to be open until 5 P.M. Wednesday, but their hours will be extended if donors are there to give.
According to Blood Assurance President and CEO J.B. Gaskins, during times of crisis, an adequate supply of blood is critical in treating victims.
“Our hearts go out to all those affected by this,” Gaskins said. “We hope our community will understand how important the need is and that they will find time to help us ensure we are prepared for more traumas and help us replenish the blood supply.”
In addition, a bloodmobile is parked at Cookeville Regional Medical Center and will also remain open as long as people are there to give blood.
Each donation of blood can save up to three lives and is needed daily for patients undergoing routine procedures, along with unexpected traumas seen on a daily basis.
You must be at least 18 years old to donate blood, but 16 and 17 year olds can give with a parent’s consent. Also, eligibility requirements are you must weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health.
