A crash on Sparta Highway in Cumberland County killed a woman and left two juveniles injured Wednesday.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol identified the deceased as 31-year-old Nikisha Blalock of Sparta. State troopers said she passed away while being transported to Cumberland Medical Center.
Officials said Blalock’s 2006 Nissan Altima was struck head-on by a 2010 Jeep Commander, driven by 71-year-old Wilma Bradley of Knoxville. The crash injured Bradley and two juveniles inside her vehicle. The report did not detail the extent of their injuries.
According to a THP crash report, Bradley had pulled onto the left shoulder of Sparta Highway near Pleasant Hill Market. She entered the highway to go West and pulled into the path of Blalock’s vehicle, which was traveling eastbound.
State troopers said Blalock was not wearing a seatbelt. The crash report noted that safety restraints would have made a difference in the outcome of the crash.
