The Putnam County Commission will consider a recommendation to put a four-way stop at the intersection of Buffalo Valley Road and Hawkins Crawford Road.
Members of the Putnam County Road Committe approved the proposal Monday afternoon. County Road Supervisor Randy Jones said the new fifth interchange has caused traffic to increase at the location.
“There’s been several accidents,” Jones said. “This last one was a pretty good accident. Nobody was severely injured, but they could have been.”
Jones has also recommended putting speed bumps along Hawkins Crawford and Buffalo Valley Road.
“I think it’s a good idea,” County Commissioner Adam Johnson said. “Every time I come through there I cringe.”
If approved, Jones said he would take steps to notify the public about the changes.
“I’ve got a message board that we can put up for a few days or a week before me do this to notify the public,” Jones said. ”
The Putnam County Planning Committee approved the plan following the road committee meeting. The full county commission will consider the proposal next week.
