Monterey Board Grants Extension For Sewer Rehab Project

Contractors have received a 90 day extension for completing the Monterey sewer rehabilitation project.

Consulting engineer Nathanial Green said the work experienced a delay when Sparta-based John T. Hall Construction had to take over the the job.

“They originally said that they could be done with an additional 60 days. I told them that I would prefer to ask for 90 because I know stuff happens,” Green said. “Weather happened and the weather in the past few weeks has not been that great. They also has some other projects that they had to do whenever the took on the Monterey project. I do feel like the project is going smoothly.”

Aldermen awarded the $373,000 project bid to J&H Construction last summer. Green said John T. Hall Construction took over the work when a project manager left for a new company.

“They had some issues that we all worked out together on the front in for some materials, but that was not their issues. It was an issue with the supplier,” Green said. “I would recommend that you (aldermen) give them the extension of the 90 days.”

The board of aldermen voted to grant the extension during Monday’s meeting. Green said the original contract required the contractor to complete the work by January 12.
