Fentress Commission Rejects Bid For Clarkrange Fire Hall Project

The Fentress County Commission rejected bids on Monday for the new Clarkrange Fire Hall remodeling project.

County Executive Jimmy Johnson said bid figures came back too high and commissioners also want to look at downsizing and rebuilding the station.

“They’ll be looking at it Thursday night,” Johnson said. “The commissioners, building committee and also some fire department members will decide what they want to do. We’ll open it back up for bids in about a week and do the bid process over again.”

The county had to find a new home for the fire hall after TDOT purchased the previous one for the Highway 127 widening project. County commissioners purchased property for the new station last year near the intersection of Highway 127 and Martha Washington Road.

Johnson said the property has a building that might be downsized to fit the needs of the fire department.

“What they would do is take it down to the concrete floor and build up from that if the do downsize,” Johnson said. “Which the building is a little large for what they need, so to downsize it about a third would work also.”

The Fentress County Building Committee meets Thursday at 5 p.m.
