Shooting Victim Gave False Statement, Police Arrest Suspect

Cookeville Police have arrested a man for allegedly shooting a woman early Friday.

44-year-old Erick Archibald faces an aggravated assault charge. He’s behind bars at the Putnam County Jail on $30,000 bond.

Cookeville Police said detectives received a false statement when the victim initially stated that an unknown person shot her as she walked along Jere Whitson Road. Officials said the shooting actually resulted from a domestic violence incident at a North Dixie Avenue apartment complex.

The victim underwent treatment at Vanderbilt Medical Center after initially receiving medical attention at CRMC. Doctors listed her condition as stable on Friday afternoon.

A press release said further investigation will likely result in more charges.
