Man Charged With DUI Following Gainesboro Grade Crash

A Cookeville man landed behind bars following a Monday afternoon crash in Putnam County.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol charged 27-year-old Christopher Aaron Beck with DUI. He could face other charges for allegedly fleeing on foot.

A preliminary crash report said high speeds caused Beck’s 2010 Hyundai Elantra to go into a yaw while traveling West on Gainesboro Grade. His vehicle switched ends facing East. While traveling West backwards, the vehicle went into the eastbound lanes and struck a GMC Sierra towing a 1998 Subaru Forester.

According to the report, the Sierra landed on its side in the westbound Lane and the Subaru came loose and traveled off the South side of the road. Beck’s vehicle came to a final rest on the North side of the road.

The report said the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Beck shortly after he fled the scene on foot.

THP charged the driver of the Sierra, 37-year-old Danny Kevin Garcia of Cookeville, with driving on a suspended license.

A female and two-year-old passenger inside Garcia’s vehicle did not suffer any injuries. Beck and Garcia were also not injured.
