A fire broke out at the East Spring Street Burger King in Cookeville Tuesday evening.
Fire Chief Daryl Blair said the fire began in the kitchen and spread to the ventilation system.
“Fire is the main damage. I don’t think there’s a lot of extensive smoke damage at this time,” Blair said. “Most of it is fire damage on its own.”
Blair said thick smoke quickly filled the lobby area by the time firefighters arrived on scene. He noted that the restaurant may be closed Wednesday.
“More than likely they are going to be closed because the roof is open where the ventilation system [is],” Blair said. “We did have to take the hood off the roof and some of the motor and stuff that helps run the fans. More than likely they will be shut down tomorrow (Wednesday) but I’m sure they’ll get their maintenance people in here quick to get it going and back up.”
No injuries occurred and crews left the scene about a two hours after responding to the incident.
