Livingston Applying For Grant To Help Downtown Properties

The Livingston Downtown Revitalization Committee will apply for a Commercial Facade Improvement Grant next month.

Committee Chairman Ray Evans said the $100,000 would benefit the Central Business District.

“It will give property owners around the courthouse square the opportunity to make significant improvements to the facades of their buildings,” Evans said. “The hope is that some of the buildings would be reconverted back to an architecturally appropriate state.”

Evans said the grant would provide property owners with up to $25,000 for new signage, entryways, brick repair, and other exterior projects.

“We had a smaller program last year. I think we had $15,000 and 10 participants,” Evans said. “That went extremely well and we’re hoping have a lot more higher-impact projects this time.”

Evans said the latest grant opportunity would help continue efforts to revitalize Downtown Livingston.

“We try to leverage every new opportunity against the work that we’ve done previously,” Evans said. “I think we are making some significant progress in the revitalization of the Central Business District.”

Evans said the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development will award the grants later this year.
