A single-engine plane crashed near the Jackson County Airport Tuesday.
Jackson County EMA reports the crash happened when the plane experienced a mechanical issue and attempted to make an emergency landing.
Public Information Officer Derek Woolbright said the pilot did not suffer any injuries.
“He did not have any complaints whatsoever. He had actually walked about 100-yards from the plane prior to crews arriving,” Woolbright said. “The pilot actually made the comment that he felt like it was planned because emergency crews were on scene so quickly.”
A press release said a strong head wind caused the plane to crash 50 yards shy of the runway.
Woolbright said the pilot was traveling from Athens, Tennessee to Oshkosh, Wisconsin for an airplane show.
