Cookeville Police arrested a homeless man Sunday for stealing a vehicle and allegedly choking a woman.
55-year-old Jack Tucker faces aggravated assault, kidnapping, and theft charges.
According to arrest warrants, dispatchers received a call from a witness who saw an assault take place along Bunker Hill Road. The caller stated that a man and woman drove off in a gray Jeep.
Police were later able to locate the Jeep and pulled the couple over at the Willow Avenue Church of Christ.
Warrants state the couple had purchased the Jeep for $3,500 from an unknown subject later identified as Tucker. A search of the vehicle’s VIN number revealed the Jeep had been reported stolen from a storage unit on Friday.
The woman told police that she and the man got into an argument with Tucker along Bunker Hill Road before Tucker placed her in a choke hold, saying the man and woman weren’t going anywhere.
Police noticed red markings on the woman’s neck near her collarbone consistent with her report. Authorities later arrested Tucker along Bunker Hill Road where the incident had taken place.
Tucker is currently being held at the Putnam County Justice Center on $50,000 bond. His first court appearance is Aug. 19.
