Cookeville Man Facing Multiple Drug Charges After Welfare Check

A Cookeville man will appear in court next month after a welfare check resulted in multiple drug charges.

Cookeville Police arrested 45-year-old Robert Chencharick earlier this week after finding him slumped over in his vehicle.

Arrest warrants indicate the arrest took place at a residence along West Broad Street Monday evening. Police arrived on scene and found Chencharick intoxicated.

The arresting officer immediately placed Chencharick under arrest for public intoxication and conducted a search of the vehicle. According to warrants, police. found five small bags of methamphetamine, two small baggies of marijuana, and over two dozen Schedule II and IV controlled substances.

Warrants also state that police found a 22 revolver in Chencharick’s pants pocket along with nearly $6,700 cash and five live 22 caliber rounds in the vehicle. Prior to the arrest, Chencharick had been convicted of a felony in Putnam County in 2013.

Police also recovered syringes and crack pipes with residue from the vehicle that were within reach of the driver’s seat.

Chencharick’s charges include possession of meth; simple possession of marijuana; two counts possession of a controlled substance; unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia; and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Chencharick remains behind bars at the Putnam County Jail with a bond of over $167,000. His first court date is scheduled for Aug. 5.
