A Cookeville man faces charges after assaulting a woman and interfering with a 911 call.
28-year-old Evan Shoemake was arrested Thursday after the incident occurred near Magnolia Court.
Arrest warrants states a woman had woken up Shoemake to argue. The report indicates Shoemake became enraged, throwing the woman into the bathtub then onto the bed before strangling her until she couldn’t breathe or scream.
Warrants also indicate Shoemake put the woman in a stranglehold from behind and bit her nose. According to the report, Shoemake took the woman’s phone so she couldn’t call for help and prevented her from answering the door.
The woman was able to leave the residence Thursday and went to the Cookeville Police Department for help. Police noticed fingertip bruises on the woman’s wrist and arm, welts on her face, and bruising on her throat.
Shoemake has since posted his $6,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court July 29.
