A trial will take place next month for a Celina physician facing federal drug distribution charges.
65-year-old Gilbert Ross Ghearing, of Livingston, was arrested in May for violating the Controlled Substances Act.
Court records indicate Ghearing prescribed Schedule II and Schedule IV drugs to patients between August 2016 and February 2019. The patients had exhibited a high potential for abuse and had a past history of abuse, including multiple instances of overdoses.
Authorities arrested Ghearing at his Celina-based practice May 17. Court documents indicate that, while under investigation, Ghearing had booked a flight to the Marshall Islands for the Sunday after his arrest.
The trial will take place Tuesday, Aug. 20 at 9 a.m. at the United States Courthouse in Nashville. A status hearing will take place prior to the trial date on Wednesday, July 17.
