Cookeville City Manager Mike Davidson will soon step into a new role with Middle Tennessee Natural Gas.
Davidson will become the organization’s new assistant chief executive officer after two decades with the City of Cookeville.
Davidson said he appreciates his time spent as city manager.
“It’s been 22 years I’ve been with the city and I’ve worked with some great folks,” Davidson said. “The city’s in a great position to continue to grow for the future. They’ve had great leadership for a number of years now and that’s positioned Cookeville where it’s at today. It’s been a blessing for me to be a part of that to try and just make a little change so Cookeville can continue to be a great city and a great place to live.”
Davidson announced his resignation from the city in January after being approached with the new position.
Middle Tennessee Natural Gas consists of several districts serving customers across the Upper Cumberland. Districts range from Jackson, Smith, and parts of Overton County south to portions of McMinn, Hamilton, and Franklin counties.
Davidson said he will miss working with the city employees on a day-to-day basis but remains excited about the future.
“Each and every day it’s a fantastic group of people that are truly dedicated to this community and I will miss them,” Davidson said. “I’ve truly been blessed to be part of the city and I will miss being here and miss the people I have worked with.”
Davidson served as Cookeville’s finance director from 1997 to 2015 when he was selected as city manager. Davidson also has experience working with the city’s natural gas department prior to becoming the city’s finance director.
Current City Planning Director James Mills will serve as Cookeville’s new city manager beginning Monday after 20 years in the city’s planning department.
