Livingston has begun accepting sealed bids for a water system improvements project.
Mayor Curtis Hayes said the project will help supply more water to the Hilham area.
“Right now, we just can’t supply the demand. This is an area we want to focus on,” Hayes said. “We focused on the Monroe and Alpine area about two years ago. We’ve got it in top shape, so this is an area we are focusing on now. Hopefully this time next year we won’t be having this conversation anymore and it will be complete.”
Hayes sad Livingston City Council voted earlier this year to increase water rates 10-percent to help pay for the project.
“Our land here in Overton County isn’t flat. We have a few hills and hollers,” Hayes said. “No one ever tells you that progress isn’t inexpensive. The total project, we’re guestimating, is about $3.5 million.”
A local newspaper advertisement says bids will be received until 2 p.m., Thursday, July 11th. Hayes said the council will likely award bids during the regular-scheduled meeting in August.
