Sparta Interviews Remaining City Admin Candidate

Sparta city officials interviewed the final candidate for their open city administrator position Friday.

Mayor Jeff Young and city aldermen met with McMinnville Public Works Director Brad Hennessee to discuss the position in more detail.

Young said after the meeting he would like to see the next city administrator establish connections within the first month of employment.

“I want it to be a situation where, in the first 30 days, he’s basically getting to know each and every employee in a short time frame,” Young said, “meeting with the department heads, sort of trying to figure out what our goals are and where we want to be in the next few years, and try to figure out a way to work with those employees and stay in the city’s guidelines and parameters.”

Young said he was impressed with Hennessee’s background in public works and heavy involvement in the grant application process.

“It seems he has quite a bit of experience in that area with grants, the logistics of those grants, and the implementation of grants,” Young said. “I think that would bring a lot to the table for this position.”

Hennessee became the city’s final candidate after current Algood City Administrator Keith Morrison pulled himself from consideration last week.

Sparta’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen next meets Thursday, June 20 at 5 p.m. at Sparta City Hall. Young said the board could make a decision on their next city administrator during the meeting.
