Cookeville Skate Park Opening June 20

Cookeville will officially open its new skate park on June 20.

Leisure Services Director Rick Woods said crews are currently working on the finishing touches ahead of next month’s grand opening.

“We’ve been working on the parking lot most recently, trying to get the parking lot in shape,” Woods said. “We have some trash receptacles to install, then we have a few additional things on the building we need to complete, just some final checklist kind of items that we’re needing to complete and then we’ll be ready to go.”

The city broke ground on the project last November and used nearly $400,000 in grant funding from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.

Woods said the park will not only benefit Cookeville residents but visitors from across the Upper Cumberland.

“We expect that it will attract people from the region to come here,” Woods said. “It’s the only skate park of its kind in this region, the only fully-concrete skate park, and it’s the only skate park designed by GrindLine in the state of Tennessee.”

The skate park is located at the former Park View Pool location along Polly Drive near Darwin Street. The June 20 grand-opening event will begin at 3 p.m.
