Algood Leases Former Police Department Building

The City of Algood has reached an agreement for leasing out part of the old city hall building.

Rae Construction will occupy the former police department wing.

City Administrator Keith Morrison said a few more spaces remain up for grabs.

“We’ve got one more that’s definitely available for rent, and if we go farther we can rent the old work session office,” Morrison said. “Right now we’ve definitely got one more space available and possibly two, depending on how soon we get them filled.”

The city council voted earlier this year to utilize the former city hall as a business incubator. Morrison said the goal is to draw more business to the downtown area.

“We’re trying to work out a space where they can get lower rent to offset some startup costs,” Morrison said. “That should help them get established before they have to start paying a full-blown commercial rent.”

Rae Construction plans to use the former police department for office space, as well as an antique shop.

Morrison said he’s hoping to have all available spaces rented out by the end of this month.
