School Board Seeking Architectural Proposals For New School

The Putnam County School Board has taken the next step for constructing a school in Southwest Cookeville.

Chairman Dawn Fry said she and her colleagues voted last week to seek proposals from qualified architects.

“I think this is a good direction for us to take,” Fry said. “We had an excellent meeting with the county commission, but I think we need to move forward on this and show them we’re ready. Hopefully, they’ll come alongside us and we’ll be able to fund that.”

Superintendent Jerry Boyd said the board should consider scheduling interviews to select the most qualified firm.

“I would suggest following the June board meeting,” Boyd said. “That would be sufficient time to obtain proposals and then allow the interviews to happen immediately following the June board meeting.

The school board plans to select firms to interview during the June 6th meeting.

The board purchased 45-acres of land for the new elementary school in August of last year.
