Authorities have charged a Cumberland County man following a standoff on Muddy Branch Lane.
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) arrested 56-year-old Jesse Spivey Tuesday morning with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment. The charges stem from an incident in which Spivey allegedly pushed a family member, stepped on their chest, and held a knife to their throat.
A press release states authorities responded to Spivey’s residence Monday after finding him holding a gun to his head.
During the standoff, Spivey attempted to light a cigarette when the gun discharged in his hand with no one being injured as a result.
CCSO officials were able to negotiate with Spivey to put the gun down before transporting him by EMS to Cumberland Medical Center for a mental evaluation.
Spivey is being held on $27,000 bond at the Cumberland County Jail. His first court appearance is scheduled for next Monday, April 29.
